The Israeli military said on Friday that it was looking into reports that Hamas had handed over another body to the Red Cross, which it claimed was that of hostage Sheri Bibas. Earlier, a Hamas official had said that Sheri Bibas’ body may have been mistakenly mixed with the bodies of others killed in Gaza after Israeli bombardment.

In a video statement, Netanyahu said, “We will work with all our hostages, living and dead, to bring Sherry home and ensure that Hamas pays the full price for this cruel and evil violation of the agreement.” According to the Israeli army, the body of the woman is unknown and has not been identified.

“Following the reports regarding Sherry, she is currently being evaluated. And IDF (army) representatives are in contact with the family,” military spokesman Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani said on X. Earlier on Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Hamas would “pay the price” for failing to hand over the body of hostage Sherry Bibas, as stipulated in the peace deal with Israel.

Several Israeli media have also reported that the Red Cross has taken custody of a body from Hamas in the Gaza Strip. A Hamas official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said it was possible that Shiri Bebas’ body was mistakenly mixed with other bodies buried in the rubble. The issue came after Israel said that one of the bodies handed over by Hamas on Thursday was not that of Sheri Bibas, as the militants had claimed.

When the four bodies arrived in Israel, the Israeli authorities immediately identified the body of 83-year-old Leif Sheets. However, between Thursday and Friday night, the Israeli army said in a statement that the National Institute of Forensic Medicine has identified the bodies of two children, but the bodies of the children’s mother are not among them.
